R.I.P. to the rockers we lost in 2023

These are the talented rock-n-roll stars we lost in 2023. Rest in Peace!

January 10th: Jeff Beck died of bacterial meningitis at age 78.

January 18th: David Crosby -- the driving force behind Crosby, Stills and Nash -- died at age 81 due to Covid.

January 28th: Tom Verlaine, the singer and guitarist who led the New York City-based Television, died at age 73.

February 8th: Composer, pianist, recording artist and music producer Burt Bacharach died at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 94.

March 3rd: David Lindley, a longtime collaborator and member of Jackson Browne's band, died following a brief undisclosed illness. He was 78.

March 13th: Jim Gordon, drummer in Derek and the Dominos and co-writer, with Eric Clapton, of their signature song, "Layla," died of natural causes at age 77.

March 27th: Tom Leadon, who played with Tom Petty in a couple of bands and was the younger brother of original Eagle Bernie Leadon, died of natural causes at age 70.

April 2nd: Music industry executive Seymour Stein died of cancer at age 80.

April 4th: Luscious Jackson co-founder and keyboardist Vivian Trimble died from cancer at age 59.

May 1st: Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot died from complications related to emphysema. He was 84.

May 4th: Rob Laakso, a multi-instrumentalist member of Kurt Vile and the Violators for over a decade, died of bile duct cancer. He was 44

May 14th: Bassist John Giblin, best known as a member of Simple Minds in the mid- to late ‘80s and for playing on half of Kate Bush's albums, died at age 71. Giblin's work as a session bassist also included Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins (that's him on "In the Air Tonight").

May 19th: Pete Brown, the longtime lyrical partner of the late Jack Bruce, passed away from cancer at age 82.

May 19th: Andy Rourke, bassist for highly influential U.K. alternative act The Smiths, died of pancreatic cancer. He was 59.

May 24th: Tina Turner died after an extended illness. She was 83.

June 14th: Former Urge Overkill drummer Blackie Onassis -- real name John Rowan – died at age 57.

July 21st: Tony Bennett, one of the singers whose talent and dedication to tradition helped shape American pop music in the second half of the 20th century, died at age 96.

July 21st: Former Shins bassist Neal Langford died at age 50.

July 24th: Brad Houser, bassist and co-founder of New Bohemians, died at age 62 after suffering a stroke.

July 26th: Sinead O'Connor died at age 56.

July 26th: Original Eagles bassist Randy Meisner died at age 77 due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

August 4th: John Gosling, keyboardist in The Kinks from 1970 to ’78, died at age 75.

August 9th: Robbie Robertson, the guitarist and songwriter of The Band, died from prostate cancer. He was 80.

August 16th: Jerry Moss, who co-founded A&M Records with trumpet player Herb Alpert in 1962 in Alpert’s garage and helped turn it into a multi-million-dollar enterprise, died at age 88.

August 30th: Former Dire Straits touring guitarist Jack Sonni died at age 68. He appeared on one song on 1985’s Brothers in Arms and toured with them in support of that album, including at Live Aid.

September 1st: Jimmy Buffett died at age 76 from Merkel cell skin cancer.

September 4th: Steve Harwell, who fronted Smash Mouth for over two decades and was the voice on hits like “All Star” and “Walking on the Sun,” died at age 56 of acute liver failure.

September 4th: Gary Wright died at age 80 from complications of Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia.

October 11th: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Rudolph Isley of The Isley Brothers died at age 84.

November 20th: Mars Williams, a saxophonist who was in The Waitresses (that’s him on “Christmas Wrapping”) and then in the Psychedelic Furs for almost 25 years, died at age 68 due to ampullary cancer.

November 30th: Shane MacGowan of The Pogues died at the age of 65 after a long illness.

December 5th: Denny Laine, a founding member of Wings and The Moody Blues, died at the age of 79 of Interstitial Lung Disease.
